Bill McKinnon, Peterhead, was raised on a farm near Mintlaw
in a musical family. His sister Jean was recorded in the 1950s
and 60s by the American folklorist Kenneth S. Goldstein and
by the School of Scottish Studies, but only recently has Bill's
beautiful voice come to the fore. At the time of my interviews,
Bill had only recently begun to compose and already he was
fluent in traditional style, having been raised within it.
Listen to Bill McKinnon singing a verse of 'The Demise o
the Craftie'
(NEFA 1994.006.12).
