Murray Smythe, Aboyne, was born in Australia, moving to Drumoak when very young. He could recall attending feeing fairs, as a bystander, in his youth and enjoyed listening to the chaumer lads making their own entertainment. Following a career which took him as far away as South Africa, he returned to retirement in Scotland.
