S: They would hang their stockings on New Year's Day, not Christmas.
They had no TVs or electricity, no plumbing. They would stay in
that night, playing music, singing, playing cards.

S: JT's father used to get her to sing when people were in the
house visiting. He was proud of her. They would have the fiddle
and piano going together. They had a great time in those days, making
their own entertainment.

S: JT's family is full of pipers, most of them in the army.
She loves to get them all singing. She has tapes of them all singing.
You have to be in the mood for singing, too. When you are not, it
